J’aime le dessin – beaucoup – Toutes les formes de dessin où l’on sent le caractère du sujet fusionner au sien pour attiser l’agréable; quelque chose qui se loge dans le souvenir et pousse au rêve.
La recherche de la forme, synthèse abstraite du champ visuel, suspend dans le temps et met en relief l’imaginaire matérialisé.
Je suis né à Québec et m’intéresse au dessin depuis l’enfance. Adolescent, j’ai été élève de Marius Dubois et de Lucienne Cornet. Au Mexique, en 1980, Jesús Gallardo m’a initié à la lithogravure. En 1995, j’ai effectué un stage d’apprentissage intensif du dessin en France, en Italie et en Espagne. Plus récemment, à Montréal, j’ai étudié la peinture avec Marcel Chabot et à l’école Bohemiarte, avec Irena Korosec. J’ai ensuite approfondi l’étude du dessin à l’atelier de Brésoles avec Eric Mannella et Allana Benham. J’ai fait des études à l’université Laval où j’ai obtenu les diplômes de baccalauréat et de maîtrise en architecture. J’y ai enseigné la composition architecturale et le dessin.
De retour à Québec, depuis 2005, je collabore à des projets, enseigne le dessin et travaille avec divers groupes d’amateurs du dessin. Je poursuis mes lectures et autres études autodidactes sur le motif, en nature et dans divers ateliers et musées, aux Colections de l’Université laval et, pour le portrait, à l’atelier de Pierre Lanoie. Artiste en interminable formation, mon intérêt porte sur la représentation des humains et de l’espace sous toutes leurs formes; autant par le dessin à main levée ou assisté par ordinateur que par la sculpture et la peinture. J’ai présenté mes travaux lors de conférences, de démonstrations et dans des expositions de groupes à Québec et à Montréal, et sur ce site Web.
I am passionate about drawing and painting, in all its forms. Moreover, where one feels that the character of the subject has merged with one’s own personality to arouse pleasant feelings. These somethings that lodge themselves in our memory and make us dream.
The search of form as an abstract synthesizes of reality highlights the subject, suspends it in time and opens the way to imagination.
The works presented here are, for the most part, drawing exercises, preliminary sketches and pages from my sketchbooks . They were intended to sharpen the hand, groom the eye, or test materials. These works are the fruit of the pleasure of drawing and observing the way light falls on the forms of all subjects closely related to humans.
I was born in Quebec city and have been interested in drawing since childhood. As an adolescent, I studied with Marius Dubois and Lucienne Cornet. In 1980, in Mexico, Jesús Gallardo initiated me to lithography. In 1995 I undertook an intensive drawing apprenticeship in France, Italy and Spain. More recently, in Montreal, I studied painting with Marcel Chabot and Irena Korosec (Atelier Bohemiarte). I then continued my study of drawing and painting with Eric Mannella and Allana Benham (Atelier de Brésoles). Since my return to Quebec city, I have continued my portrait studies with Pierre Lanoie at his studio. Equally, I have continued to study drawing following my own program at Les Collections de l’université Laval.
I have a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in architecture from Université Laval where I also taught. I work with various groups interested in drawing. My particular interests are the graphic representation of human and space relationships, in all their forms. These include free hand, computer assisted drawing, sculpture, and painting. My studies have been presented as lecture materials, demonstrations and group exhibitions in both Quebec City and Montreal.
This is a never ending apprenticeship and a life long passion.
